While resident in the town, he also pursued an extraordinary parallel career as a furniture designer, landscape artist, writer and craftsman. A founder member of the Scottish Guild of Handicraft, he was later the man behind Edinburgh\u2019s celebrated Holyrood Pottery.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Elizabeth Cumming is an honorary Fellow at Edinburgh University and well known as a historian of Scottish art and design including the Arts and Crafts movement and the Scottish Colourists. Her recent books have included a history of Dovecot Studios and a biographical study of the painter Sir Robin Philipson.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Jack is a ceramics historian and collector, currently President of the Scottish Pottery Society. She has lectured and published articles on a number of Scottish ceramic studios of the Arts and Crafts period and beyond, as well as contributing an article on Wyse to the Newsletter of the Scottish Society for Art History.<\/p>\n<p>An illustrated book, <em>Henry Taylor Wyse: Artist, Teacher, Craftsman<\/em> was available on the night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hospitalfield.org.uk\/whats-on\/events\/friends-of-hospitalfield-talk\/\">http:\/\/hospitalfield.org.uk\/whats-on\/events\/friends-of-hospitalfield-talk\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Museum of Edinburgh<\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">A Wise Man Knows His Craft: <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Henry Taylor Wyse and\u00a0the\u00a0Holyrood Pottery<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1666 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/htwyse.info\/HTW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/image001-300x141.jpg\" alt=\"image001\" width=\"300\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/htwyse.info\/HTW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/image001-300x141.jpg 300w, https:\/\/htwyse.info\/HTW\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/image001.jpg 465w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 85vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cA Wise Man Knows His Craft: Henry Taylor Wyse and the Holyrood Pottery\u201d was the first ever exhibition to explore the ceramic art and legacy of this unsung hero of Scotland\u2019s Arts &amp; Crafts movement.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Henry Taylor Wyse was a prolific painter, potter and designer. He was a founder of the Scottish Guild of Handicraft, a reformer of art teaching in schools, and a friend and co-exhibitor of key figures in the art world such as John Munnoch and William Staite Murray.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition, shown\u00a0between July-October 2016, brought together Holyrood pottery from the Museum of Edinburgh with a large number of loans from major private collections to showcase Wyse\u2019s important artistic legacy.\u00a0View a\u00a0photographic gallery of the exhibition on the <a href=\"http:\/\/htwyse.info\/HTW\/events\/huntly-house-exhibition\/\">&#8216;Museum of Edinburgh Exhibition&#8217;<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>The museum has a permanent\u00a0display showing some of its collection of Holyrood Pottery wares.
